IMPORTANT: ABOUT WET STEAM
CLEANERS:
Unlike pressure
washers, the real measure of
a wet steam cleaners power is
its GPH. That is gallons of
water per hour. The more
volume/weight of super heated
wet steam you hit a surface with
the faster it will clean. All
these units have the same 100 to
200 PSI range but very different
GPH ratings. They will
fluctuate in over all pressure
within this range but the GPH
remains constant. Also
check out our
Oil Fired SJ
steam cleaner series.
See
95% DRY
Vapor Steam Cleaners Here.
Our Steam Cleaners work in a
different manner
when compared to hot and
cold pressure washers. Steam cleaners actually
produce 85%-90% solid super heated water and the steam
is a by-product of creating pressure through heat.
The primary difference between
steam cleaners and pressure
washers is that steamers only
attain a 100-200PSI pressure at
a significantly reduced volume
comparatively (70 to 300 GPH). Steamers use the
170
times water vapor expansion when the
superheated water
explodes into the atmosphere
through the nozzle to
achieve their cleaning power,
whereas pressure washers simply
use the pump’s pressure to
achieve a similar result.

Simplicity
Simple and easy to use controls
are standard features on a Jenny Steam Cleaner.
The control switches for the Motor and
Burner are lighted and easily visible
to the operator. The switches give the
machine’s status by glowing
Red in the
Off position and Green
in the On position. The units come standard with
a special electronic pilot ignition system that
lights the pilot when the
motor is turned on. The main gas valve is
controlled by the burner switch and trigger gun.

ceramic plunger pump to the specially designed
Natural or LP gas combustion chamber, heating
coils, and gas control valves. The electronic
gas ignition system, which is standard to all
Jenny gas fired machines, is specially designed
for these type machines. |
|

SJ Steam
Cleaners - General Information |
|
Jenny Oil Fired Steam Cleaners
incorporate the
latest state of the art engineering and
manufacturing along with a tradition of building
steam cleaners dating back to their revolutionary
invention by Jenny in 1927. These Steam Jennys are
packed with a host of standard features and
equipment to allow effective and efficient cleaning.

The steamers, like all Jenny Oil
Fired units, incorporate Jenny's Twin Fire Modular Gun
Burner System which features 18,000 Volt Wing Nut
Removable Twin Electrode Ignition System, Belt Driven 6"
Diameter x 4" Wide Blower System, driven off of the Main
Drive Motor Adjustable Air Intake, and a Belt Driven 200
PSI 3.0 GPH Fuel Pump. This constant duty burner system
allows for clean and efficient combustion of Kerosene,
Diesel, #2 Home Heating Oil, or JP-4 Jet Fuel.
Jenny Steam Cleaners
work in a different manner when compared to hot and cold
pressure washers. Steam cleaners do not actually make
steam in the sense of the word, they actually produce
85%-90% solid water and the steam is just a by-product
of creating pressure through heat. The primary
difference between steam cleaners and pressure washers
is that steamers only attain a 100-200PSI pressure at a
significantly reduced volume comparatively (70 to 120
GPH). Steamers use the 170 times water vapor expansion
when the superheated water explodes into the atmosphere
through the nozzle to achieve their cleaning power,
whereas pressure washers simply use the pump's pressure
to achieve the similar result. This along with the fact
that almost all detergents work better as the
temperature increases allows steam cleaners to clean
grease and oil based dirt using significantly less water
and safer, milder detergents.
As a general rule,
if the dirt being cleaned is oil based either animal,
vegetable, or mineral - then a steam cleaner will clean
it right down to the surface pores better and more
thoroughly with less mess than any other type of
cleaning unit available. Let a "true" 325° Steam Jenny
steam cleaner do the heavy degreasing and sanitizing
tasks around all types of equipment, machinery, and
parts, and see the savings in time, labor, soap, and
water.

How Many
GPM's & How Much PSI?
What is PSI:
Pounds Per Square
Inch of pressure (Agitation / Scrubbing Action)
Think of PSI as the scrubbing power of your pressure
washer. This action is what breaks the dirt loose from the
surface.
What is GPM:
Gallons Per Minute
of water (Dirt Removal / Rinse Action)
Think of GPM is the ability of the power washer to
remove the loosened dirt. The faster you rinse the dirt away
the faster you
complete the job. GPM is very important.
Not
Enough Water Flow At Your Site? LEAN HOW TO GET MORE WATER - GPM!
What is CU:
CU stands for Cleaning
Units.
The CU formula is PSI multiplied by GPM. Many home
owner pressure washers are sold this way. Though it is a
simple formula,
we shy away from it since it makes PSI and GPM equal in
the equation. In most cases GPM is a little, if not a lot
more important.
Therefore, they are not equal. CU Example: 3,000-PSI
x 4-GPM = 12,000 CU's
What is more important
GPM or PSI?
They are both very important.
Different jobs require different types of force. The
following topics highlighted below in bold & blue should
help you decide. To clean a pressure washer must both
agitate or scrub (PSI) the surface to loosen the dirt and then
rinse (GPM) away the dirt. Simply put the PSI is the scrubbing
action and the GPM is the rinsing action. The purpose of
the PSI is to break the chemical bond the dirt has to the
surface, consider it like unto a scrubbing action. The
GPM is what rinses or flushes away that dirt. Both are important
but in many cases GPM can be more important. To
judge your PSI needs consider the following two points.
1) Is the surface soft and easily damageable like
wood or is it very hard and tough like steel? A 3000 PSI
unit has to potential to quickly damage wood. 2) Consider
the type of dirt/material to be removed, is the material
very well stuck to the surface? If the material is very
hard to remove by manual scrubbing, that is it takes a
lot of agitation to break its bond with the surface then
you want more PSI. Do your best to balance these two
factors: The ability of the surface to withstand PSI and
the ease or difficulty level of breaking the dirt's
chemical bond to the surface. Also factor in weather or not you
are getting a hot, cold, steam or combination pressure
washer system. Heat as well as soap can do a lot to
break free grease and grime while reducing the
requirement for higher PSI.
GPM, More
Important?
GPM is not always the most important factor.
Sometimes all you need is some pressure and relatively low
GPM. It depends upon your application. Ultimately, more
power means faster work, BUT more power also means more
potential to damage the surface. Lets look at cleaning a
wooden deck. Pressures as low as 300 to 1000 PSI should
work well. A 3000 PSI washer will rip the wood to shreds
if you get close to the surface. In this case, low PSI,
chemicals and high GPM would be better. On the other
side of this, if you are working indoors, say in a
commercial kitchen and have minimal floor drainage then
you will clearly want a lower GPM unit.
Personal
Example GPM:
I have a New Holland tractor that I like very much. This
year it got pretty mudded up with a mud/clay mix from my
property. Using a small, cheap Wal-Mart type 1,700 PSI power washer
running at what I believe was a water flow of a little
over 2 GPM I went to
work cleaning it. This tractor is not that big, its a
45hp and about 6' wide. As I was cleaning I could see
that the PSI was fine for cutting through the dirt but I
had to get close and
it took a long time for the dirt to come off or rinse
away. De-mucking this tractor probably took me well over
40 minutes! That might be fine for a home owner, but not
for a business where time is money. I also had to be careful how close I got to
some of the surfaces that had fittings or decals. You
see, the low GPM caused me to get in tight to focus the
rinsing effect. If I had a 4GPM unit with the same PSI I
probably could have cleaned that whole tractor in less
then 10
minutes and comfortably stood back while I was doing it.
This is an example where higher GPM would have made all
the difference in the world.
Many
Experienced Pressure Washing Contractors Find That GPM
is more important then PSI. Since contractors use
cleaning chemicals that do most of the work breaking the
chemical bond the dirt has to the surface, they need
less PSI (scrubbing action) to break the dirt free. Most
of what is needed is to break the remaining dirt free
and take it away is the rinsing / flushing action. Also,
keep in mind that slamming 3 to 5 gallons of
water/solution (some of our units go up to 10GPM!)
at a surface has force in it self. Think of it this way,
imagine a small pile of dirt somewhat dried onto your
porch. If you take a glass of water and throw it into
the dirt it will move the dirt a bit. If you throw a
full bucket of water on that same pile of dirt it will
likely be gone. The weight of the water has a scrubbing
action in itself. This powerful flushing action is
measured in a pressure washer by GPM. You will also find
that a HOT WATER pressure washer or WET STEAM CLEANER
with or without chemical will require less PSI to break
the surface bond of dirt and oils. The GPM flow of HOT
or SOAPY water does much of the work. Once the chemical
bond between the surface and the dirt is broken free,
its all about GPM. Decide how much pressure you may need
to break that bond then decide
how much GPM you can
handle at your location. Example:
A 1500-PSI unit with a 2-GPM flow might clean between
4-6 square feet per minute. A similar unit with the SAME
1500-PSI with a 3-GPM flow might clean 6 to 10 square
feet in that same minutes work. The bottom line is
faster cleaning equals a shorter job time. So lets say
you are getting paid $200 for a job. If that job takes
you 4 hrs to clean, you're making $50 per hour. If you
have a more powerful pressure washer and cut the time in
half, you would be making $100 per hour. Time is money.
GPM and PSI are very important.
DE-MUCKING
Things Like Trucks, Bulldozers, Tractors, Backhoes, Roads,
Military
Equipment: GPM or PSI?
There is no question that de-mucking or the removal of
caked on mud, clay and dirt is by far best achieved by
using HIGH GPM. The pressure (PSI) is most often less important.
The GPM is KEY to removing and flushing away heavy dirt fast. In fact, for
equipment like tractors, tanks, jeeps and bulldozers it
is often best to use non heated water at lower PSI. Why? Well,
using high GPM rates of at least 4GPM (higher is better)
and cold water you avoid removing greases from fittings,
avoid injecting water into bearings and other places it
should not be thus extending the life of your equipment.
High pressure penetrates, High GPM flushes clean.
De-mucking requires flushing or high GPM. Personal
Example GPM: Granted this is a small scale example but
the principle remains the same. I have a New Holland tractor that I like
very much. This year it got pretty mudded up with a
mud/clay mix from my property. Using a small common
1,700 PSI with what I believe is a flow of under 2 GPM.
This tractor is not that big, its a 45hp and about 6'
wide. It took me close to an hour to clean. As I was
cleaning I could see that the PSI was fine for cutting
through the dirt but it took a long time for the dirt to
rinse away. De-mucking this tractor probably took me
well over 40 minutes! I also had to be careful how close
I got to some of the surfaces with fittings or decals.
You see, the low GPM caused me to get in tight to focus
the rinsing effect. If I had a 4GPM unit with the same
PSI I probably could have cleaned that whole tractor in
well under
10 min.
DE-GREASING
Factories, Restaurants, Heavy Equipment, Floors,
Pavement, and more:
If its the removal of grease,
(de-greasing) oils, animal fats, or sticky gummy
materials you are looking for then you want HEAT! There
is no question that hot water or wet steam melts greasy
substances much faster then cold water. Think about it,
if a grease becomes more solid at colder temperatures
and more liquid at warmer temperatures then it stands to
reason that hot water will clean faster then cold. In
fact, if you are dealing with substances like animal
fatss or chemical that harden in cooler temperatures
then spraying it with cold water on it is counter
productive. If you use the right detergents most
surfaces will clean without heat but heat will work
better and faster with less use of chemicals. As for the
PSI or GPM, well that will depend upon your situation.
If you are inside a commercial kitchen likely can not
have 5 GPM flooding the place. However, if you are
cleaning dumpsters, loading docks or maybe gas stations
high GPM would be very helpful. Consider one of our 325
degree steam cleaning units or FULL COMBINATION units
that incorporate cold water, hot water and steam
cleaning in one unit. Wet steam is the best option for
degreasing in most cases. Second best is hot water.
YOUR
LOCATION: Does Your Location Have Enough Water Flow
= GPM?
GPM This tells you how much water
the unit uses every minute. Be sure to check your water
flow rate (GPM) at your location.
Here is a simple test. Get a common 5 gallon bucket. Next, get
your garden hose and a watch or clock. Turn your water on full
pressure, check your watch and start filling the bucket. Stop
filling at exactly 1 minute. If your hose fills the bucket, you have a
flow rate of at least 5 GPM. If it doesn't, estimate how many
gallons were filled in that minute. Not sure? do this, measure
the inside of the bucket from top to bottom. Take that
measurement in inches and divide it by five. 5 for the five
gallons. Take your measurement (lets say it is 4")
and put 5 marks inside the bucket from bottom to top using that
measurement. Each line will now represent one gallon. Now do the
test again.
GETTING
MORE WATER At Your Location Is Easy:
You can simply order a storage
tank for your truck, shop or work site. Just Renew-It!
Industrial Supplies has a great selection of Loomis tanks
ranging from as little as 55-gallons to 15,000-gallons! This
approach allows you to order ANY GPM size pressure
washer!
Will You Need A Large Tank?. Not likely!
Why? Let me give you an example. Lets say you want a
Steam Jenny Pressure Washing system that consumes 5 GPM
but your work site only has a hose that only puts out
4GPM. You are 1 gallon per minute short. Lets say you
get a very small tank, say the 55 gallon one mentioned
above. First fill the tank with water in advance. Have
it filled and ready to go. Next, connect your pressure
washer inlet to the bottom of that tank. Put your 4-GPM
garden hose in the top and turn it on. Your 5-GPM jenny
will work fine for about 55 minutes. Why? The hose is
replacing 4-GPM as the Jenny is taking 5-GPM, This means
the tank is only losing 1 gallon of water per minute. Of
course, you can order any size tank. Example, 250 gallon
tank, in the example above would give you a 250 min run
time. That's over 4 hours of NON STOP Cleaning.
Naturally, if you stop power washing between that time
the tank will be filling back up. We sell a
complete line of
water storage tanks here. Have a look.
QUESTION: Why An All Electric
Combination Unit?
ANSWER:
Unlike other units, the all electric
units generate ZERO emissions and is 100% environmentally
friendly. This means no indoor pollution. These portable units
can be used in commercial kitchens, factories, food processing
plants, military bases, air craft hangers, clean room environments and anywhere fast, non toxic
cleaning is need. ZERO emissions means a safer, healthier work
environment. Since they are on wheels and 100% portable they can
be used outdoors as well
as in!
QUESTION: What does PSI
and GPM stand for?
ANSWER:
PSI Stands for "Pounds per
Square Inch" of water pressure the unit puts out. GPM
stand for "Gallons of water Per Minute". This tells you how much
water the unit uses and puts out every minute. Both are
important when considering what unit to buy. Be sure to check
your water flow rate at your location.
Here is a simple test. Get common a 5 gallon bucket. Next, get
your garden hose and a watch or clock. Turn your water on full
pressure, check your watch and start filling the bucket. Stop
filling at exactly 1 minute. If it fills the bucket, you have a
flow rate of at least 5 GPM. If it doesn't, estimate how many
gallons were filled in that minute. Not sure? do this, measure
the inside of the bucket from top to bottom. Take that
measurement in inches and divide it by 5. 5 for the five
gallons. Take your measurement (lets say it is 4")
and put 5 marks inside the bucket from bottom to top using that
measurement. Each line will now represent one gallon. Now do the
test again.
QUESTION: Why would I want
a super heated pressure washer rather then just cold?
ANSWER:
Cold water at high pressures can be
a powerful cleaning tool. Hot water can also be a powerful
cleaning tool. When you combine high pressures and super heated
water/steam you get superior cleaning results. You can clean AND
sanitize surfaces in one pass. This saves you time and money.
The high pressure HOT water mode will allow you to cut through
grease, oil, dirt and grime faster then cold water. This super
heated cleaning power allows you to clean items that once took
hours to clean in minutes. This super heated steam means you can
not only clean faster but you can actually sanitize while you
clean. All this WITHOUT chemicals!
QUESTION: What do you
mean by OIL FIRED or OIL HEATED?
ANSWER:
The Oil Is What Fires Or Heats The
Water. Oil can be simple Diesel, #2 Home Heating Oil,
JP-4 Jet Fuel or Kerosene.
QUESTION: What powers or
pumps the water pressure?
ANSWER:
It depends upon the unit. Some are
powered by a 120 volt, 220 volt or 460 volt electric motor and
some are powered by a gasoline engine. See individual individual
classes for specifications.
QUESTION: What is the advantages
of a gasoline powered unit vs. electric?
ANSWER:
The gasoline version eliminates the
need for electrical extension cords. This makes the unit much
more portable. It can be transported to remote job sites where
there is no electrical hook-up. Just add your fuel, connect a
water supply and push start! 100% portable.
QUESTION: What Fuel/Power
Types Are Available?
ANSWER:
The 3 general types available are as
follows.
- Oil Heated & Electric Pumped Units.
- Propane / Natural Gas Heated & Electric Pumped Units
- All Electric Heated & Pumped (requires anywhere from a
220V to 575V 3 Phase outlets)
------ These units come in many different classes and
configurations. See individual pressure washers page for info.
